Establish a corporate manufacturing excellence program from scratch with the engagement of key operations talent across a large global chemicals company.
The program developed touched four key areas (people, efficiency, technology engineering) with an emphasis on creating common best practices across the global manufacturing footprint without damaging the autonomy of the business unit. Manufacturing Excellence delivered a set of requirements in each area coupled with a freedom to act. This created a balance which enabled all 53 sites across 31 countries to implement lean manufacturing practices, strengthen fundamental business/manufacturing knowledge and share best practices across manufacturing sectors.
The program delivered a reduction in the corporate business’ cost to sales ration of 2.5% (improved margins) over a three-year period and created a stronger global unity and communication between all divisional operations. On a site-specific basis, reductions in operating costs in the millions of dollars were realized.
